Men's Track & Field Places 8th at ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Four Bears garnered All-ECAC honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team during the second and final day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships on Friday at Springfield College.

Senior Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) placed third in the 800-meter dash with a school-record time of 1:51.44. Goehring eclipsed his own program mark of 1:51.50 set last weekend at the NEICAAA Championships.

Fellow senior Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, mass.) posted the Bears' top placing at the meet as he finished second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:52.07.

Senior Chris Perry (Attleboro, Mass.) placed third in the long jump with a season-best leap of 24 feet, 0.75 inches (7.33 meters). Perry jumped up all the way to fifth in Division III in the event.

Senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) garnered All-ECAC accolades in both the 200-meter dash and the long jump. Espinosa finished fourth in the 200 (21.84) and seventh in the long jump (23'3.50"/7.10m).

The Bears finished eighth in the team standings with 27 points. Brockport captured the meet title with 72 points, followed by Widener (59 pts.) and Oneonta (58.5 pts.).

As of 11:30 pm on Friday, Perry is ranked fifth in all of Division III in both the triple jump and the long jump, Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) is sixth in the 110-meter hurdles, and Goehring is 18th in the 800. The top 20 ranked individuals in each event (non-relays) are eligible to enter the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held on May 21-23 at St. Lawrence University.
