Men's Outdoor Track & Field Ties For 14th At NEICAAA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Four student-athletes earned All-NEICAAA honors and four school records fell as the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track and field team competed during the third and final day of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships on Saturday at MIT.

Senior Chris Perry (Attleboro, Mass.) placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 48 feet, 8.75 inches (14.85 meters) as he eclipsed Joshua Danner-Hicks previous BSU mark of 48 feet, 5.25 inches set last season.

Junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles as he posted a finals time of 14.35 seconds. Murtagh, who placed fourth in the event, bettered his own standard of 14.55 seconds set in yesterday's preliminary heat.

Senior Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a BSU record time of 1:51.50. Goehring broke Ed Bombardier's 30-year old mark of 1:51.70.

Senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' All-NEICAAA performers on Saturday as he placed fifth in the finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.85 seconds.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad of Goehring, juniors Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) and Carlton Williamson (Easton, Mass.) and freshman Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) posted a time of 3:20.32 (13th place) as the foursome eclipsed the 2013 mark of 3:23.16.

The Bears finished tied for 14th place (21 pts.) in the team standings. The University of Rhode Island captured the meet title with 104.50 points followed by Southern Connecticut State University (82 pts.) and the University of Connecticut (77 pts.).

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU track & field teams will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College.

Notes: Perry is now ranked fifth in all of Division III in the triple jump, while Murtagh is sixth in the 110-meter hurdles and Goehring is 16th in the 800-meter run.
