Murtagh Sets BSU Hurdle Mark at NEICAAA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) eclipsed his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team during day two of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships hosted by MIT.

Murtagh posted a preliminary time of 14.55 seconds as he bettered his previous mark of 14.56 seconds set last season. Murtagh finished third in the preliminaries as he advanced to Saturday's final.

Senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) placed seventh in the long jump to earn All-NEICAAA honors with a leap of 23 feet, four inches (7.11 meters).

Espinosa also finished seventh in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.77 seconds. He was just 3/100 of a second off his own school mark of 10.74 seconds set earlier this season. Espinosa advanced to Saturday's final with his seventh place showing.

Senior Chris Perry (Attleboro, Mass.) added a 13th place showing in the long jump (21'9"/6.63m), while fellow senior Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) was 13th in the 100-meter dash (10.91). Junior Mark Waller (Andover, Mass.) placed 17th in the 10,000-meter run (32:52.17), and classmate Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) finished 19th in the 400-meter hurdles (56.09).

The NEICAAA Championship meet will conclude on Saturday.
