CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team recorded nine All-New England performances in eight different events at the Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT on Friday and Saturday.

The Bears finished third in the team standings with 60.5 points.  MIT won the team title with 171.5 points followed by Bates College in second (75). The third-place finish equaled the Bears' highest placing at DIII New Englands set last season.

Seniors Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.), Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) and Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) captured New England titles in the 200-meter dash (21.92), the 800-meter run (1:53.11) and 1,500-meter run (3:52.71), respectively.

Espinosa also ran a leg on the Bears' New England champion 4x100-meter relay squad along with classmate Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) and juniors Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) and Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.).  The foursome posted a time of 41.87 seconds.

Espinosa added a second-place finish in the long jump on Friday as he posted a mark of 23 feet, 3.50 inches (7.10 meters). Freshman Darion Sadri (Northfield, Mass.) also garnered All-New England honors in the long jump as he placed fourth with a leap of 22 feet, one inch (6.73 meters).

Danner-Hicks placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 10.96 seconds.

Junior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) and freshman Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' All-New England performers. Sawyer tied for seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (55.30), while Williamson placed eighth in the triple jump (45'6.25"/13.87m).

Next weekend, qualifying members of the men's outdoor track and field team will compete at the NEICAAA Championships also hosted by MIT.
