Men's Track & Field Captures ECSU Invitational Title

MANSFIELD, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team captured the meet title at the 8th Annual ECSU Invitational on Friday.

The Bears recorded a team score of 250 points to outdistance host and runner-up Eastern Connecticut State University (154 pts.).

Bridgewater placed first in ten events led by senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) and junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.).

Espinosa captured top honors in the long jump (23'4"/7.11m) and the 200-meter dash (21.72), while Murtagh place first in the 110-meter hurdles (14.67) and the 400-meter hurdles (56.08).

Murtagh currently ranks seventh in all of Division III in the 110-meter hurdles, while Espinosa is tenth in both the long jump and the 200.

Espinosa also ran a leg on the Bears' winning 4x100-meter relay squad (41.99) along with classmates Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) and Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) and junior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.). The group ranks 15th in Division III in the event.

Chukwu added a win in the 100-meter dash (10.97).

Seniors Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass.) and Dallas O'Brien (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshmen Colin Knapton (Mattapoisett, MA) and Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) also won individual events for the Bears. Lavoie in the shot put (43'8"/13.31m), O'Brien in the 1,500-meter run (4:13.65), Knapton in the javelin (166'4"/50.70m) and Williamson in the triple jump (45'6.25"/13.87m).

Williamson is 22nd overall in all of Division III in the triple jump.

Seniors Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) and Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University.  Goehring posted a time of 1:53.76 in the 800-meter run, while Sukeforth recorded a time of 3:51.96 in the 1,500-meter run. Sukeforth is ranked 11th in all of Division III in the 1,500, while Goehring is 30th in the 800. 

Next weekend, the Bears travel to Fitchburg State University for the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.
