Men's Track & Field Places 2nd at Jerry Gravel Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Six student-athletes earned individual wins to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team at the Jerry Gravel Classic on Saturday hosted by Westfield State University.

The Bears places second out of four teams at the meet with 171 points. The Host Owls won the meet title with 255 points.

Senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) placed first in both the long jump and 100-meter dash. Espinosa posted a mark of 22 feet, 4.5 inches (6.82 meters) in the long jump and a time of 10.94 seconds in the 100-meter dash. He currently ranks 29th in all of Division III in the long jump.

Senior Chris Perry (Attleboro, Mass.) captured top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, nine inches (14.25 meters), while junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds.

Perry ranks tenth in Division III in the triple jump.

Rounding out the Bears' individual event winners were senior Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) in the 1,500-meter run (3:57.53) and classmate Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) in the 800-meter run (1:54.40). Goehring is 30th in Division III in the 800.

Next weekend, the BSU track & field teams will compete at the 9th Annual ECSU Invitational as well as the Larry Ellis Invitational.
