Men's Track & Field Captures UMD Corsair Classic Title

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team won the meet title at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic on Saturday.

The Bears notched 118 team points to outdistance the field. Bentley University finished second with 106.5 points, while Rhode Island College rounded out the top three with 77 points.

Junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) captured top honors in the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.72 seconds, while senior Chris Perry (Attleboro, Mass.) won the individual title in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 10.75 inches (6.67 meters). Murtagh is now ranked fourth in all of Division III in the hurdles.

Seniors Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.), Connor Foley (Foxborough, Mass.) and Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.), junior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) and sophomore Nathan Robitaille (Seekonk, Mass.) also placed second in their respective events. Espinosa in the 400-meter dash (51.31), Foley in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:26.80), Sukeforth in the 800-meter run (2:00.27), Couture in the 100-meter dash (11.07) and Robitaille in the shot put (46'0"/14.02m).

Robitaille also finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 137 feet, ten inches (42.01 meters).

Freshman Darion Sadri (Northfield, Mass.) placed third in the long jump (20'5.25"/6.23m), while senior Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.94).

Rounding out the Bears top five individual performers were senior Dallas O'Brien (Mansfield, Mass.) in the 1,500-meter run (4:22.09), junior Mark Waller (Andover, Mass.) in the 5,000-meter run (17:04.07), freshman Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) in the shot put (41'0.5"/12.51m) and freshman Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) in the triple jump (42'4.25"/12/91m).

BSU's 4x400-meter relay squad featuring Goehring, O'Brien, Sukeforth and freshman Joseph Kisamore (Attleboro, Mass.) finished fourth in the event with a time of 3:44.49.

Next weekend, the BSU track & field teams compete at the Westfield State Invitational.
