Espinosa Eclipses 100 Mark to Lead Bears at Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) broke a 23-year old school record to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team at the season-opening Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday.

Espinosa posted a time of 10.74 seconds in the 100-meter dash as he eclipsed BSU Hall of Famer Tim Mann's previous mark of 10.75 seconds set back in 1991. Espinosa also captured the individual title in the event while teammate Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) finished third (10.91).

The Bears finished third in the team standings with 91 points trailing only Northeastern University (100 pts.) and meet winner and host Tufts University (111.5 pts.)

Espinosa also garnered top honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.21 seconds, while Couture placed fourth (23.35).

Senior Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) won the meet title in the 5,000-meter run as he crossed the line in 15:25.06.

Freshman Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) captured the individual title in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 5.50 inches (13.55 meters), while freshman Isaiah Matier (North Easton, Mass.) finished third overall (43'2.25"/13.16m).

Junior Carlton Williamson (Easton, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.41 seconds.

Juniors Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) and Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.), and freshman Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.), finished second (58.19), third (58.66) and sixth (1:01.05), respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.

Freshman Darion Sadri (Northfield, Mass.) placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 11.25 inches (6.38 meters)

Next weekend, the Bears compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

Notes: Espinosa is currently ranked third in all of Division III in the 100 while Couture is 13th.
