Three Bears Qualify for NCAA Track & Field Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.), junior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) and sophomore Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) have each qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will get underway later this week.

The national championship meet will take place from May 22nd to May 24th at Ohio Wesleyan University's Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio.

Danner-Hicks is making his second straight appearance in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.  He is ranked seventh in all of Division III in the event with a qualifying distance of 48 feet, two inches (14.68 meters).  Danner-Hicks recorded the BSU school record-setting mark earlier this season at the Division III New England Championships.

Espinosa qualified in both the 200-meter dash and the long jump.  He is ranked 11th in the 200 with a BSU record-setting time of 21.38 seconds, and 14th in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 6.75 inches (7.18 meters).  Espinosa posted his qualifying marks at the NEICAAA Championships (200) and DIII New Englands (long jump).

Danner-Hicks and Espinosa both garnered All-American honors in the triple jump and 200, respectively, at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this past winter.

Murtagh will be making his NCAA debut as he qualified in the 110-meter high hurdles with a BSU school record time of 14.57 seconds.  Murtagh, who is ranked ninth in all of Division III in the event.  recorded his qualifying time over the weekend at the ECAC Division III Championships.

Espinosa is scheduled to compete in the long jump on Thursday evening at 6:30 with the preliminaries of the 200 getting underway on Thursday at 7:15.  The finals of the 200 will take place on Saturday afternoon at 4:35.

For Murtagh, the preliminaries of the 110-meter high hurdles is slated for 6:45 PM on Friday night with the finals on Saturday afternoon at 2:40.

Danner-Hicks will compete in the triple jump on Saturday at noon.
