Conor Murtagh Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Conor Murtagh has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Murtagh garnered All-America honors in the 110-meter high hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Ohio Wesleyan University last week.  The Walpole, Massachusetts native posted a time of 15.31 seconds in the finals as well as a school-record time of 14.56 seconds in the preliminaries. He eclipsed his own previous BSU outdoor standard of 14.57 seconds set earlier this month at the ECAC Division III Championships.

Murtagh was one of three Bears to earn All-America accolades at the national championships meet joining teammates Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) and Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.).  Danner-Hicks placed fourth in the triple jump while Espinosa finished seventh in the long jump.

This marks the third time during the 2014 campaign that Murtagh has received the MASCAC weekly honor.  He was also selected as the conference’s track athlete of the week for his performances at the ECAC Championships and the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational.

Murtagh also competed in NCAA postseason play back in the fall for the BSU men’s soccer team. He was named MVP of the MASCAC Tournament as he helped the Bears’ capture the conference title and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
