BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Four members of the Bridgewater State University men’s outdoor track and field team placed first in their respective events at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational on Saturday at Swenson Field.

Senior Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) grabber top honors in the discus (145’) at the non-scoring meet and qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and ECAC Division III Championships in the event.  Cawley also placed fourth in the shot put (43’11.25”).

Junior Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass.) was the top place-winner in the shot put (47’3.00”) and qualified for DIII New Englands.   Lavoie also finished fourth in the discus (133’6”).

Sophomore Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (17.06), while sophomore Declan Wirzburger (Hanson, Mass.) recorded the top throw in the hammer (143’10”).  Wirzburger also placed fifth in the discus (132’6”).

Senior Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass.) finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (17.39) and also grabbed the fourth spot in the high jump (5’8.75”/1.75m).

Sophomore Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.72) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.51).

Senior Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished second in the 200-meter dash (23.47) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.92)

Sophomore Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles (58.69).

Junior Connor Foley (Foxborough, Mass.) was the third runner to cross the finish line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:20.00), while classmate Nathaniel Meyer (South Easton, Mass.) took home fourth place in the javelin (154’11”/47.23m).

Junior Chris Naughton (Braintree, Mass.) placed fifth in the 400-meter dash (52.13) and seventh in the 200 (23.95).

Junior Dallas O’Brien (Mansfield, Mass.) crossed the line sixth in the 800-meter run (2:08.48) and seventh in the 1,500-meter run (4:15.89).

Freshman Ryan MacNeill (Wakefield, Mass.) placed sixth in the hammer (116’11”), sophomore Daniel Coulter (Norton, Mass.) finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (18.65), and freshman John Keane (Norton, Mass.) was eighth in the shot put (41’8.75”) to round out the Bears’ top place-winners.

Next week, the BSU outdoor track & field teams will compete at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University.
