Murtagh, Cawley, 4x100 Relay Garner All-ECAC Honors

TROY, N.Y. -- Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.), Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) and the 4x100 relay garnered All-ECAC honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team during day two of the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by RPI.

The Bears finished 15th in the team standings with 19 points.  Oneonta State won the meet with 63 points followed by Bates College (60 pts.) in second place, and MIT (46 pts.) and host RPI (46 pts.) tied for third.

Murtagh finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a BSU outdoor record time of 14.57 seconds.  He eclipsed his own previous standard of 14.69 seconds set last weekend at the NEICAAA Championships.

Cawley placed seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 154 feet, two inches (46.99 meters).

The Bears' relay squad of Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.), Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.), Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) and Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) finished fourth in the 4x100 with a time of 42.52 seconds.

Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass.) and Ian Knapton (Mattapoisett, Mass.) placed 14th in the shot put and long jump, respectively. Lavoie posted a mark of 48 feet, 0.75 inches (14.65 meters) in the shot, while Knapton recorded a leap of 22 feet, 0.75 inches (6.72 meters) in the long jump.

Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) added an 18th-place performance in the 400-meter hurdles (56.81).

Next week, qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team will compete at the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.  Murtagh is currenty ranked ninth in all of Division III in the 110-meter hurdles, while Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) is ranked seventh in the triple jump. Espinosa is 11th overall in the 200-meter dash and 14th in the long jump, while the Bears' 4x100 relay is ranked 17th.

Official seeds for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be announced by the NCAA on ncaa.com on Sunday monring at 9:00 AM (ET).
