Four School Records Fall as Men's Track & Field Competes at NEICAAA Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Four outdoor records fell as the Bridgewater State University men's track and field team competed at day two of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships held at Westfield State University on Saturday.

Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) eclipsed his own school mark in the 200-meter dash as he posted a finals time of 21.38 seconds.  Espinosa garnered All-NEICAAA honors as he placed third in the event. His previous standard of 21.62 seconds was set earlier this season at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships.

Espinosa also ran a leg on the Bears' record-setting 4x100-meter relay team which posted a time of 41.64 seconds and earned All-NEICAAA status with a third-place showing.  Joining Espinosa in the relay were Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.), Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) and Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.). The foursome also set the previous standard of 41.91 seconds earlier this season at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships.

Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) finished fifth in the discus throw and earned All-NEICAAA honors with a school record-setting toss of 156 feet, seven inches (47.72 meters).  Cawley eclipsed his own previous mark of 155 feet, four inches (47.34 meters) set last weekend at the Division III New England Championships.

Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) posted a finals time of 14.69 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles to break his own record of 14.73 seconds set yesterday in the preliminaries.  Murtagh garnered All-NEICAAA accolades by finishing seventh in the event.

Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded an All-NEICAAA fourth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 11 inches (14.60 meters).

The Bears finished eighth in the team standings at the meet, and second among Division III teams, with 31 points.  Southern Connecticut State won the team title with 108 points, followed by the University of Rhode Island (71 pts.) and the University of Connecticut (66 pts.).

Notes: Espinosa ranks ninth in all of Division III in the 200, while Murtagh ranks 15th in the hurdles, Cawley 30th in the discus and the 4x100 relay is 24th overall...Espinosa also ranks 11th in the long jump, while Danner-Hicks is sixth in the triple jump.
