Espinosa Leads Men's Outdoor Track & Field at NEICAAA Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Junior Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) earned All-New England honors in the long jump to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships on Friday at Westfield State University.

Espinosa placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 5.25 inches (6.84 meters).He also finished fourth in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.96 seconds.  Espinosa will compete in the finals of the 200 on Saturday.

Sophomore Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) placed seventh in the preliminaries of the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.73 seconds.  Murtagh will compete in the finals of the hurdles on Saturday.

Junior Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) just barely missed qualifying for the finals of the 100-meter dash.  Chinedu recorded a time of 11.03 seconds to finish ninth.

Senior Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) and junior Ian Knapton (Mattapoisett, Mass.) were the next top place-winner for the Bears.  Danner-Hicks placed 17th in the 100-meter hurdles (11.21 meters), while Knapton finished 17th in the long jump (20'1"/6.12m).  Sophomore Daniel Coulter (Norton, Mass.) added a 31st place showing in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Heading into Saturday, the BSU men's outdoor track & field team is tied for 11th place in the team standings at the NEICAAA Championships with eight points.  Southern Connecticut State is in first place (33 pts.) followed by Boston College (23 pts.) and University of Vermont (22 pts.).
