Murtagh, Espinosa Lead Men's Track & Field at Larry Ellis Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Several members of the Bridgewater State University men's track and field team competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University on Saturday.

The meet featured almost exclusively Division I and unaffiliated competitors as well as some Division II and Division III participants.

Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) broke his own school mark in the 110-meter hurdles as he placed sixth in the event with a time of 14.74 seconds. Murtagh, who is currently ranked 13th in all of Division III, eclipsed his previous mark of 14.80 seconds set last weekend at the ECSU Invitational.

Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 3.5 inches (7.10 meters), and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.75 seconds.

Espinosa also ran a leg on the Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad which placed eighth with a season-best time of 42.02 seconds.  Joining Espinosa on the relay were teammates Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.), Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) and Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.).

Danner-Hicks and Couture also competed in the 100-meter dash. Danner-Hicks posted a time of 11.19 seconds to tie for 29th overall, while Couture finished tied for 31st place with a time of 11.20 seconds.

Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) placed 21st in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 56.08 seconds.  Sawyer qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships and NEICAAA Championships.

The outdoor schedule resumes for the Bears on Saturday when they compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
