Men's Track & Field Places 4th at Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's track & field team finished fourth in the team standings at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University on Saturday.

Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) and Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) notched top honors in the 100-meter dash and triple jump, respectively, to lead the Bears.  Couture recorded a finals time of 10.94 seconds in the 100, while Danner-Hicks posted a leap of 47 feet, 0.25 inches (14.33 meters) in the triple jump as they both qualified for all three regional postseason championship meets in their respective event.

Danner-Hicks, who is ranked second in all of Division III in the triple jump, added a fifth place showing in the 100 with a finals time of 11.40 seconds.  He registered a preliminary time of 11.16 seconds to qualify for DIII New Englands in the event.

Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) posted a preliminary time of 10.84 seconds in the 100 to qualify for all three regional postseason championships.  He also placed second in the long jump and qualified for all three regional postseason meets with a leap of 23 feet, 0.5 inches (7.02 meters).  Espinosa is currently ranked second in all of Division III in the long jump and ninth in the 100. 

Daniel Coulter (Norton, Mass.) recorded a finals time of 15.61 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to place third in the event and qualify for all three regional postseason championships.

Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished third in the 400-meter dash (51.32) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.97).  Judge qualified for DIII New Englands in the 200.  Chris Naughton (Braintree, Mass.) added a fifth place showing in the 400 (51.75).

Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles and qualified for DIII New Englands with a time of 57.56 seconds.

Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) finished fifth in the discus (117'11"/35.94m) and eighth in the shot put (43'1.75"/13.15m).  Declan Wirzburger (Hanson, Mass.) placed sixth in the discus (116'11"/35.64m) and ninth in the hammer throw (120'3"/36.65m).  Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass.) checked in with a seventh place performance in the shot (43'11.25"/13.39m).

Bridgewater registered a team score of 65 points.  Bate College won the meet with 108 points followed by host Tufts (79 pts.) in second place and Worcester State University (70 pts.) in third.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
