Mensah Leads Men's Track at BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University hosted the BSU Bears Track and Field Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  It marked Bridgewater's first home track meet in over 12 years and the first on the newly renovated Swenson Field.

On the men's side, the Bears' 4 x 100 relay squad of sophomores Felix Mensah (Lowell, Mass.) and Mohammed Malik (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshmen Joshua and Joseph Danner-Hicks (Bedford, Mass.) captured the event title with a time of 44.01 seconds.

Mensah also grabbed second place in the 100-meter dash (11.29 seconds), while Joshua Danner-Hicks finished third in the triple jump (13.31 meters).

Freshman Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass.) placed second in the 110-meter hurdles.  Horan posted a time of 15.64 seconds as he qualified for three postseason meets; Division III New Englands, the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships and the ECAC Division III Championships.

Sophomore Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) and junior Bill Taft (Hanson, Mass.) also qualified for DIII New Englands in their respective events.  Cawley posted a second place showing in the shot put with a toss of 14.08 meters, while Taft finished sixth in the javelin with a distance of 52.10 meters.
