John Nestel was hired as the Bears head men's and women's tennis coach prior to the start of the 2013 fall season.  Nestel is a former professional tennis player and four-year varsity collegiate player at Division I Boston College.

John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from BC in 1990. He played for the Eagles men's tennis squad from 1986 to 1989 and helped the squad capture three Big East titles.

Previously, Coach Nestel served as the head women's tennis coach at Mount Ida College from 2009 to 2010.  He guided the team to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament appearance in 2010 in just their second year of existence.

John also served as the head varsity coach at Thayer Academy and coached two #1 players to undefeated seasons as well as an ISL MVP and Boston Globe MVP.

John is both a USPTR and USPTA Certified Professional as well as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer.

In 2010, John was ranked #1 In USTA New England Men's 35's Tennis and was ranked among the top 15 nationally in 35's Singles and Doubles.  John was also a doubles finalist at National 35's Fiesta Bowl in Scottsdale, Arizona.  In 2012, he was ranked second for doubles in USTA Men's Open New England.

In 2013, his first season as the Bears' head coach, John guided the women's team to a perfect 14-0 regular season (16-1 overall), as well as both the Little East Conference regular season and tournament championships and an NCAA Division III Tournament bid.  He followed that up in 2014 with a 8-3 regular season mark from the women's team, picking up a win in the conference tournament before bowing out to Rhode Island College in the Little East semifinals.

Coach Nestel has owned and operated a real estate development company in Cohasset since 1996.
