BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Filippo Mucci has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Mucci went 2-0 at fifth singles last week during the Bears' Little East Tournament title run and secured the decisive fifth point in both the semifinal and championship matches. The Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts resident also teamed with Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) for a 1-1 mark at third flight doubles.

Mucci posted a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win against Rezka Yuspi in a 5-0 semifinal round victory over UMass Boston and paired with Hebert for an 8-2 doubles triumph. He then helped send the Bears to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history with a 6-2, 6-4 straight set win against Andrew Fanning in a 5-1 LEC championship match triumph over Rhode Island College.

In six singles matches this season, Mucci is 5-1 with a perfect 5-0 mark at the fifth flight. He is also 4-5 in doubles competition, teaming with Hebert for a 4-4 record at number three.

The BSU men's tennis team is currently 9-4 on the season. The Bears, who ran the table against Little East teams during the regular season and conference tournament, will compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament later this week.
