Adam Beatrice Named Little East Men's Tennis Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Adam Beatrice has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

The MVP of the the Little East Tournament, Beatrice went 2-0 at the the top doubles flight and earned a straight set victory at second singles during the Bears' tournament title run.

Beatrice teamed with classmate Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.) for an 8-4 win at number one doubles in Bridgewater's 5-0 semifinal round victory over UMass Boston. Beatrice and Ayson also earned a hard-fought 8-7 (11-9) decision at the top doubles flight in a 5-1 championship match triumph over Rhode Island College. The Rockland, Massachusetts native added a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win over RIC's Josh Brien to help send the Bears to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. 

In 11 singles matches this season, Beatice is 6-5 with a 5-4 mark at the second flight. He also went 4-2 against Little East opponents.

In doubles competition, Beatrice paired with Ayson for an 8-5 record exclusively at number one. The Bears' top flight duo posted a 6-1 mark against Little East opponents.

Beatrice is 14-9 in singles play and 15-12 in doubles over his first two seasons with the Bears. He is also 10-2 all-time in singles play against Little East opponents and 11-4 in doubles competition.

The BSU men's tennis team is currently 9-4 on the season. The Bears, who ran the table against Little East teams during the regular season and conference tournament, will compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament later this week.
