Men's Tennis Blanks Thomas, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Thomas College on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears, who swept the three doubles matches and each of the six singles flights, improve to 4-6 on the season, while the visiting Terriers fall to 10-7. The two teams were meeting for just the second time. Last season, Bridgewater also posted a 9-0 win at the Rosen Courts.

In doubles play, graduate student Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and freshman Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-3 win at number one, while senior Charles Fiske (Taunton, Mass.) and sophomore Charles Malinowski (East Bridgewater, Mass.) earned an 8-4 victory at the second flight, and sophomore Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.) and freshman Ryan Herbert (Taunton, Mass.) cruised to an 8-0 decision at number three.

Nutter, Fiske, Krampf, freshman Tyler Barros (Somerset, Mass.) and Malinowski all won in straight sets for the Bears in singles play at the first (6-4, 6-3), third (6-0, 6-3), fourth (6-0, 6-0), fifth (6-2, 6-0) and sixth (6-1, 6-2) flights, respectively. Beatrice battled back from a set down to record a 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 decision at second singles. The win marked the rookies' team-leading sixth singles victory of the season.

Up Next: The Bears host Little East Conference rival Salem State University tomorrow afternoon at 3:30, while the Terriers host Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Match on Saturday afternoon at one.
