Men's Tennis Drops 6-3 Little East Decision to UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth men's tennis team defeated visiting Bridgewater State University, 6-3, in a Little East Conference match on Thursday afternoon.

Junior Corey Rafter (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman Chris Ouellette (Dartmouth, Mass.) took both of their matchups on they day to lead the way for the host Corsairs.

The Corsairs improve to 5-9 on the season and 3-2 in the Little East, while the Bears fall to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in conference action. 

In the doubles play, the Corsairs took two out of three flights as the only pairing to fall was at the top flight. Bridgewater State's junior tandem of Matt McGee (Warren, R.I.) and Chris Jastrab (Chicago, Ill.) defeated the senior combination of Andrew Burdick (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) by the score of 9-7.

In No. 2 doubles, the freshman pair of Ouellette and Anthony Joseph (Fairhaven, Mass.) cruised to an 8-0 victory. The third pairing saw Rafter and senior Summer Forest-Bulley (Turners Falls, Mass.) post an 8-2 decision.

The Corsairs took four out of six singles matchups, all in straight sets. Chouinard won at the top flight, 6-2, 6-1, while Ouellette posted a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 3.  Rafter and freshman Zach Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) rounded out the singles winners for the hosts at the fourth and sixth flights, respectively.

In No. 2 singles, Jastrab defeated Joseph 6-0, 6-1, while the No. 5 singles matchup saw BSU freshman Harrison Ryan (Halifax, Mass.) take down Tony Xie (Beijing, China) by a score of 6-3, 6-3.

The Corsairs close out the regular season next, when they host UMass Boston on Saturday Senior Day, starting at 1 p.m. Bridgewater State will also close their conference slate on Saturday, hosting Rhode Island College at noon.
