Men's Tennis Edges Suffolk, 5-4

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team edged visiting Suffolk University, 5-4, on Monday afternoon at blustery Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The host Bears improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Rams fall to 2-4 overall.

Bridgewater captured two of the three doubles flights while the two teams split the six singles matches.

The Bears' second flight doubles team of juniors Chris Jastrab (Chicago, Ill.) and Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, Mass.) cruised to an 8-0 win, while senior Andrew Narciso (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) posted an 8-4 decision at the third spot.

Junior Francesco Saia (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomore Alonso Vela (Calexico, Calif.) picked up the Rams' lone doubles points with an 8-4 win at number one.

In singles play, Jastrab (6-4, 6-2), Haley (6-4, 6-4) and Belinsky (6-0, 6-2) each won in straight sets at the second, fourth and sixth flights, respectively, for the Bears.

Vela earned a tough 6-4, 7-5 straight set decision at first singles for the Rams. Suffolk also received singles wins from freshman Chris Parnagian (Cranston, R.I.) at the third flight (6-4, 6-4) and classmate Rami Esrawi (Braintree, Mass.) at number five. 

The Bears are off until Tuesday, April 19th when they host Little East Conference foe University of Southern Maine at 3:00 PM. The Rams entertain UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday (4/13) evening at 6:30.
