Men's Tennis Drops 7-2 Little East Decision to Western Connecticut

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The visiting Western Connecticut State University men's tennis team earned a 7-2 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Colonials improve to 2-6 on the season and 1-1 in the Little East, while the host Bears fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Western captured all three doubles flights and four of the six singles matches to secure the win.

Sophomore Marco Gobbato (Yonkers, N.Y.) paced the visitors as he recorded a 6-4, 6-2 decision at first singles and teamed with senior Jason Hipona (Orange, Conn.) for an 8-5 victory at the top doubles spot.

The Bears received singles victories from freshmen Harrison Ryan (Halifax, Mass.) and Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Ryan won in straight set, 6-2, 6-1, while Belinsky bounced back from a set down to win, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater State entertains non-conference foe Suffolk University on Monday afternoon at 3:30.
