Men's Tennis Falls to Johnson & Wales in Home Opener

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Visiting Johnson & Wales University posted a 9-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The match marked the home opener for the Bears who fall to 1-2 on the young season. The visiting Wildcats improve to 7-3 with the win.

JWU won each of the three doubles matches and all six singles flights to earn the victory.

In the top match of the day, senior Jason Chavenson (Upper Dublin, Pa.) edged BSU sophomore Chris Jastrab (Chicago, Ill.) in straight sets at the second flight, 7-6, 6-4. The first set was decided in a tie-breaker, 7-5.

At six singles, JWU freshman Tyler Dupee (Middletown, N.Y.) posted a 6-2 decision over Bears' freshman Harrison Ryan (Halifax, Mass.) in the opening set and then hung on for a 7-6 win in set two. The second set tie-breaker score was also 7-5.

The Bears travel to Wheelock College on Monday evening for a seven o'clock match with the Wildcats. Johnson & Wales heads to Clark University on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Cougars at 3:30.
