Men's Tennis Falls to Wentworth in Season Opener

WESTON, Mass. -- The Wentworth men's tennis team swept all six singles matches and all three doubles flights en route to a 9-0 victory over Bridgewater State University on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

The Leopards improve to 1-2 with the win, while the match marked the season opener for the visiting Bears (0-1).

Juniors Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) and Nate Schwartz (Chester Springs, Pa.) kicked things off for Wentworth with an 8-1 win at first doubles. At number three, junior Zach Peter (Preston, Conn.) teamed with sophomore Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.) for an 8-3 win. The Leopards competed the doubles sweep when senior James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Henry Tittmann (Cambridge, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-2 triumph at the second flight.

Ly posted a 6-0, 6-2 straight set win at number six singles before Schwartz clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the third flight. Peter, Drum, Smith and Tittmann also won in straight sets at the fifth, second, first and fourth flight, respectively.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday, March 24th. The Bears travel to Curry College (3:00 PM) while the Leopards head to Suffolk University (6:30 PM).
