Men's Tennis Falls to RIC, 6-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island College men's Tennis team posted a 6-3 win over Bridgewater State University in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.  

Senior Brian Gil's (North Providence, RI) straight set victory (6-3, 6-4) at No. 6 singles helped secure the 6-3 win. Gil also paired with sophomore Chris Klawitter (Brooklyn CT) for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles for the hosts (3-6, 2-2 LEC).

Bridgewater State (0-8, 0-4 LEC) senior Sean Bleau (North Dighton, MA) and junior Michael Delisle (Berkley, MA) combined to defeat RIC junior Tim Holzinger (Foster, RI) and sophomore Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI), 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.

Freshmen Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and Josh Pimentel (Smithfield, RI) edged BSU sophomore Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, MA) and junior Jacob Frazee (Yarmouth, MA), 9-7, at No. 2 doubles to stake the Anchormen to a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Bleau defeated Holzinger (6-1, 6-2) and Delisle downed Kim (7-5, 6-4) at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Taggart defeated Haley (6-3, 6-3) and Tiberi blanked Frazee (6-0, 6-0) at third and fourth singles, respectively. Pimentel rounded out the Anchormen victories by downing freshman Zachary Mutti (Peabody, MA) at No. 5 singles (6-3, 7-6).

Gil's win over junior Andrew Narciso (East Bridgewater, MA) at sixth singles clinched the win.

Bleau is now 2-2 in both first singles and doubles play against Little East opponents.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Springfield on Monday at 3:30. Bridgewater State travels to Southern Maine on Wednesday for a 3:30 Little East match with the first place Huskies.
