Men's Tennis Secures Spot in Little East Tournament with 8-1 Win over Salem

SALEM, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team secured the sixth seed in next week's Little East Conference Tournament as the Bears posted an 8-1 victory over Salem State University on Saturday afternoon at Salem's Rockett Arena.

The visiting Bears improve to 3-10 on the season and 1-4 in the Little East with the win.  The Vikings, who were playing in their season finale, end the year 0-11 with a 0-6 mark in conference play.

Bridgewater captured two of three doubles matches and all six singles flights to come away with the win.

Eric Johnson (Kingston, Mass.) and Hung Huynh (Worcester, Mass.) posted an 8-5 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) and Michael Mello (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up an 8-1 win at the third flight to stake the Bears to the 2-1 lead after doubles play.

Conner Erickson (Hubbardston, Mass.) and David Dluznieski (Auburn, Mass.) picked up the lone point for Salem State at second doubles, 8-6.

In singles play, Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.), Farrell, Johnson and Matt McGee (Warren, R.I.) all won in straight sets at the first, second, fourth and fifth flights, respectively.  Mello recorded an 8-5 pro set victory at six singles, while Huynh came back from a set down at the third flight to win, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

The Bear wrap up regular season play on Sunday afternoon at home against the University of Southern Maine.  The match is slated to get underway at noon.
