Men's Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision to Gordon

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Visiting Gordon College posted a 6-3 victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference men's tennis action on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Fighting Scots improve to 6-12 on the season with the win, while the Bears slip to 2-7 overall.

Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, Gordon bounced back to win five of the six singles matches to secure the win.

BSU senior Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshman Matt McGee (Warren, R.I.) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at second doubles, while the third flight tandem of senior Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Mello (Dartmouth, Mass.) won 8-5 to give the Bears the early 2-1 lead.

Sophomore Zach Hall (Sugarland, Texas) and senior Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) recorded the Fighting Scots' lone doubles point with an 8-2 decision at the top flight.

Hall won in straight sets at first singles, 6-2, 6-0, to tie the match at 2-2.  Sophomore Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) followed with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at number four to give the Fighting Scots the lead.  Gaudio made it 4-2 in favor of the visitors with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at the second flight.

Sophomore Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) came back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 at third singles to clinch the match for Gordon.  Junior Dan Christensen (Attleboro, Mass.) made it 6-2 as he won in a tie-breaker, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7, at number five.

Bridgewater State sophomore John Nguyen (Revere, Mass.) capped off the scoring with a 6-3, 7-5 straight set victory at sixth singles.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain Little East Conference rival Rhode Island College on Saturday at noon.  The Fighting Scots travel to Curry College on Monday afternoon for a four o'clock Commonwealth Coast Conference match with the Colonels.
