Men's Tennis Drops 7-2 Decision to Johnson & Wales

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team posted a 7-2 win over host Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The visiting Wildcats improve to 6-1 on the season with their third straight win, while the Bears slip to 2-3 overall.

Johnson & Wales captured two of three doubles matches and five of the six singles flights.  Freshman Andre Barbero (Brielle, N.J.) posted a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory at the first singles and teamed with classmate Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, N.Y.) for an 8-4 win at the top doubles flight.  Auffret battled BSU senior Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) to a tough 7-6 (14-12), 7-6 (9-7) triumph at second doubles the highlight match of the day.

The Bears picked up their lone two points at second doubles and fourth singles.  Farrell pair with fellow senior Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-6 win in doubles play, while classmate Eric Johnson (Kingston, Mass.) posted a 6-1, 6-2 straight set decision in his singles match.

JWU freshmen Jason Chavenson (Upper Dublin, Pa.) and Jorge Mancebo (Santiago, D.R.) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at third doubles.  Chavenson added a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win at third singles, while Mancebo won the fifth flight, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.  Fellow rookie Grzegorz Wala (Woonsocket, R.I.) rounded out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-4 straight set triumph at sixth singles.

The Bears travel to Roger Williams University on Thursday afternoon for a non-conference match with the Hawks starting at 3:30.  The Wildcats entertain Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Norwich University on Saturday afternoon at one.
