Men' s Tennis Blanks Wheelock, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team blanked visiting Wheelock College, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

Bridgewater State skipper John Nestel earned his first victory as head coach of the BSU men's tennis team as the Bears improve to 1-1 with the win.  The game also marked the season-opener for the visiting Wildcats who fall to 0-1.

BSU senior Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) teamed with classmate Eric Johnson (Kingston, Mass.) for an 8-1 win at first flight doubles, while senior Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Hung Huynh (Worcester, Mass.) posted an 8-0 victory at the second flight.

Farrell, Huynh, Johnson, freshman Matt McGee (Warren, R.I.) and sophomore John Nguyen (Revere, Mass.) also posted 8-0 pro set wins in singles play at the first through fifth flights, respectively.

The Bears also picked up forfeit wins at third doubles and sixth singles to account for the final tally of 9-0.

Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday as the Bears' travel to Paxton, Mass. to take on Anna Maria College at six.  Wheelock entertain New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) foe Newbury College next Wednesday afternoon at 3:30.
