Men's Tennis Blanked by UMass Boston, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting UMass Boston men's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Little East Conference (LEC) rival Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.  The match marked the regular season finale for both teams.

UMass improves to 12-3 on the season and 6-0 in the LEC.  The Corsairs are the top seed in next week's Little East Tournament and will have a first round bye.  Bridgewater falls to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.  The Bears are seeded fourth in the tournament and will host a first round match versus fifth-seeded Salem State University on Tuesday afternoon.

UMass won all three doubles matches and all six singles flights to earn the victory.

Sean Cullen (Medway, Mass.) and David Hernandez (Bogota, Columbia) teamed for an 8-1 decision at the top doubles flight.  Cullen also recorded a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at number one singles, while Hernandez also won in straight sets at the second flight, 6-4, 6-3.

Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) earned an 8-2 win at second doubles for the Beacons.  Both Loyer and Lai won in straight sets during singles plays with Loyer posting a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the third flight and Lai winning 6-1, 6-3 at number four.

Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass.) and Eglis Bizhoti (Dorchester, Mass.) paired up for an 8-6 triumph at third flight doubles.  Shavers also won 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at fifth singles, while Bizhoti came back from a set down to win at sixth singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
