Men's Tennis Drops Little East Match to RIC, 7-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The Rhode Island College men's tennis team posted a 7-2 Little East Conference (LEC) win over visiting Bridgewater State University on Friday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.

The Anchormen won for the fourth straight match, and for the fifth time in six contests, to improve to 6-3 on the season. They also stay unbeaten in the conference (2-0), while the Bears drop to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in league play. RIC took two of the three doubles matches and five of six in singles action.

Senior Nate Rebello (Pawtucket, RI) continued his hot streak, downing senior David Campbell (Vineyard Haven, MA) in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at first singles, Freshman Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) had a tough time with junior Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) at number two singles (6-4, 5-7, 11-9) but battled out a win. Rebello and Werchadlo combined for an 8-4 victory at the top doubles spot against the Campbell/Zagame tandem.

RIC senior Mike Aiello (Scituate, RI) and freshman Kyle Kelaghan (East Greenwich, RI) won at number three and four singles, respectively, and paired up for an 8-2 win at second doubles.

Freshman Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, MA) was the lone bright spot for Bridgewater State, earning a hard-fought three-set win (3-6, 6-3, 10-4) over RIC freshman Brad Lamoureux (Pawtucket, RI) at fifth flight singles. He paired with classmate Joao Machado (Newton, MA) for an 8-2 win at number three doubles.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at UMass Boston tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., while Bridgewater hosts LEC foe Salem State University at noon.
