Men's Tennis Opens Little East Play with 8-1 Win over UMass Boston

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team opened Little East Conference (LEC) play with an 8-1 victory over visiting UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

Bridgewater improves to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Little East, while UMass slips to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The host Bears won all six singles flights in straight sets and captured two of the three doubles matches to pick up the conference win.

Senior captain Nicholas Amrose (Arlington, Mass.) and freshman Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-2 second doubles triumph, while freshmen Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Joao Machado (Newton, Mass.) won at number three doubles by the same score.

The visiting Beacons picked up their only point of the afternoon in the doubles competition as freshman Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass.) and senior Himanshu Dubey (Lucknow, India) posted an 8-5 win at the top spot.

Amrose, Gotlib and Farrell also earned singles victories in the third, fifth and sixth flights respectively.  Senior David Campbell (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) won the top singles match, while classmate Mike Zagame (Uxbride, Mass.) was a winner at number two and sophomore Nicholas Desisto (Uxbridge, Mass.) triumphed at the fourth spot.

Bridgewater will travel to Rhode Island College on Wednesday afternoon for a 3:30 Little East Conference match with the Anchormen.  The Beacons host LEC foe UMass Dartmouth also on Wednesday at 3:30.
