BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College men's tennis team recorded a 6-3 victory over the University of Southern Maine in Little East Conference action on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Bears improve to 7-6 on the season and 3-2 in the Little East.  Southern Maine falls to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Bridgewater won four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles flights led by senior Armindo Rocha (Brockton, MA).  Rocha posted a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win at second singles and teamed with junior Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) for an 8-3 triumph at the top doubles flight.  Lipomi also won in singles play as he rebounded from a set down to win, 5-7, 6-0, 7-5, at number five.

Sophomore Adam Laithy (North Smithfield, RI) and sophomore Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) rounded out the Bears' singles winners.  Laithy picked up a three set win at the third flight, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, while Zagame was victorious in straight sets at the fourth spot, 6-0, 6-4.  Zagame and freshman Matt Mailhot (Oxford, MA) paired up for a 9-7 decision at second doubles.

For Southern Maine, senior Joshua Warren (Hermon, ME) won the top singles flight as he battled to a tough three set win, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.  Freshman Tyler Colombo (Gardner, MA) also won in singles play for the Huskies at number six, 7-6, 6-4.

Bridgewater State will take on Rhode Island College in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday at noon.  The Bears will earn the third seed in next week's Little East Tournament with a win over the Anchormen.  A loss would drop the Bears to number four.  Southern Maine travels to UMass Boston on Sunday for a one o'clock Little East match with the Beacons.
