Men's Tennis Falls to Western Connecticut, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Western Connecticut State University men's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season as the Colonials downed host Bridgewater State College, 7-2, this afternoon in Little East Conference action.

Western Connecticut improves to 10-0 with the victory and 5-0 in the Little East.  Bridgewater falls to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

The Colonials took five of the six singles flights and two of the three doubles to come away with the victory.

Sophomore Troy Pandolfi (Danbury, CT) led the way for Western Connecticut as he posted a 6-2, 6-2 straight set win at first singles and teamed with junior John Phillips (Hartford, CT) for an 8-5 triumph at the top doubles flight.  Phillips also notched a 7-5, 7-4 victory at number two singles.

Junior Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) was the lone singles winner for the Bears as he rebounded from a set down at the fifth flight.  Lipome won in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.  Freshman Matt Mailhot (Oxford, MA) and sophomore Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) breezed to an 8-1 triumph at second flight doubles.

Bridgewater State will host Little East rival Southern Maine on Friday followed by a conference match at home against Rhode Island College on Saturday.  Western Connecticut plays hosts to Salem State College on Saturday with the winner taking home the Little East regular season title.
