Charlie MacDonald is in his 5th season working on the BSU Swimming & Diving program staff and currently serves as a volunteer assistant, focusing mainly on operations and recruiting. Charlie is a 2015 graduate of Bridgewater State University, where he swam for four seasons, serving his junior and senior years as captain of the men's team. A native of Braintree, Massachusetts, Charlie also served as President of the BSU Athletics Captain's Council his senior year. Charlie was the 2015 recipient of the Lee Harrington Unsung Hero Award at the BSU Athletics Banquet. The men's swimming and diving team won three straight Steve Looke Sportsmanship Awards (2013-2015) from the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association during Charlie's time on the team.

Charlie joined the swimming and diving staff at BSU during the 2015-2016 season, serving as an assistant coach. After that season, he spent time as an assistant coach at Tufts University and head coach at Cedar Crest College. At Cedar Crest, Charlie was named the 2018 and 2019 Northeast Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women's Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches. Charlie also worked to complete his Master's Degree, also from Bridgewater, during this time, which he finished in 2021. Both of his degrees are in physical education and athletic coaching.

Charlie rejoined the BSU swimming and diving staff during the 2019-2020 season as an assistant coach on a volunteer basis. He worked as a teacher and athletic director at different small elementary and middle schools during this time. He was on the coaching staff during the 2021-2022 season when the men's program won the inaugural Little East Championship, the first championship in the program's history.

Charlie accepted his current position as a science teacher and associate head swimming coach at Dexter Southfield School during the summer of 2022. He then started his new role as an Aquatics/Swimming & Diving Operations Assistant at Bridgewater State, where he works on the program's social media, recruiting, team events, and does some coaching.
