Men's Swimming & Diving Captures BSU Invitational Title

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team captured the BSU Invitational title on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears, who placed first in 13 of the 20 events, notched 662.5 points as they edged Norwich University (655.5 Pts.). CCRI (61 Pts.) and Gordon College (10 Pts.) rounded out the team scoring.

The foursome of freshman Chris Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.) and seniors Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.), Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) and Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:39.96).

Anastasiades, Flaherty, Santos and freshman Ben Wilkinson (Reading, England) closed out the meet by winning the 200 freesetyle relay with a time of 1:30.34.

Anastasiades, Flaherty, senior Timucin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.), Santos and Willis each won two individual events. Anastasiades placed first in both the 100 individual medley (57.23) and the 200 individual medley, 2:04.32), while Flaherty captured top honors in the 100 backstroke (56.21) and the 50 backstroke (26.01), and Marino was the first to touch the wall in the 200 butterfly (2:10.65) and the 500 freestyle (5:10.21). Santos won both the 50 butterfly (24.80) and the 50 freestyle (22.67), and Willis outdistanced the field in the 100 breaststroke (59.18) and the 50 breaststroke (26.57).

Wilkinson added a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:53.31).

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 18th when they travel to Brandeis University for a tri-meet featuring the host Judges and Keene State College.
