Richard Smith Named NEISDA Men's Swimmer of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Richard Smith has been selected as the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Men's Swimmer of the Week.

A native of Milford, Massachusetts, Smith captured top honors in both the 200 individual medley (2:00.21) and the 200 backstroke (2:00.34) as the Bears split a tri-meet with Keene State College and Brandeis University this past weekend. His time of 2:00.34 in the 200 backstroke marked a season-best.

Smith also swam the opening leg on the Bears' first place 400 medley relay squad as he and teammates Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.), Quinn McAlear (Norton, Mass.) and Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) posted a season-best time of 3:40.20. Smith completed the 100 backstroke portion of the relay in a season-best time of 53.76 seconds.

Earlier this week, Smith was named the NEISDA Men's Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com.

In upcoming action, the BSU swimming & diving teams travel to Regis College on Saturday for tri-meet featuring the host Pride and Husson University.
