KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team captured three NEISDA titles and set three school records on Friday evening at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships held at the URI Tootell Aquatic Center.

Senior Richard Smith (Milford, Mass.) won the NEISDA title in the finals of the 200 individual medley with a school and meet-record time of 1:50.38. Smith broke his own program mark of 1:51.75 set earlier today in the preliminaries. He also bettered his NCAA provisional qualifying time in the event.

Sophomore Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.) captured the NEISDA championship in the finals of the 50 breaststroke with a BSU record time of 26.39 seconds. He eclipsed his own record of 26.74 seconds set earlier today in the preliminaries.

Smith, Willis, freshmen Quinn McAlear (Norton, Mass.) and sophomore Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) won the finals of the 400 medley relay with a school record time of 3:26.56. The foursome shattered the previous school standard of 3:31.26 set earlier today in the preliminaries.

Smith swam the opening backstroke leg of the 400 medley relay and posted a time of 50.36 seconds as he knocked off his own BSU 100 backstroke mark of 52.99 seconds set earlier this season.

Juniors Robert McDougall (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.), senior Max Medina (Marion, Mass.), Flaherty and sophomore Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) also garnered All-NEISDA honors for the Bears. McDougall placed second in the 50 breaststroke (28.02), while Rose and Medina finished third (1:57.33) and seventh (2:08.02), respectively, in the 200 backstroke. Flaherty placed fourth (22.19) and Santos finished fifth (22.20) in the 50 freestyle.

Junior Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) is in second place after the preliminary round of the one-meter diving competition. Belinsky posted a score of 362.25 points.

The BSU men's squad is in second place in the team standings with 257 points after day two. Roger Williams University leads the way with 344 points, while UMass Dartmouth (220 Pts.) round out the top three.

The four-day championship event continues on Saturday morning with the preliminary round getting underway at ten.
