Men's Swimming & Diving Sinks Elms, 142-81

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team recorded a 142-81 victory over host Elms College on Saturday at the Partyka Natatorium.

The visiting Bears improve to 5-3 in dual meet competition on the season with their second straight win, while the Blazers fall to 2-1.

Seven different BSU swimmers won individual events at the Blazers' 25-meter pool with sophomore Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.) leading the way with a pair of victories. Willis captured top honors in the 50-meter breaststroke (31.24) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.66). He also set the pool record in the 100 breaststroke.

Senior Richard Smith (Milford, Mass.) placed first in the 100 freestyle (56.90) and set the pool record in the 100 individual medley (1:02.02). Smith swam the 100 IM as an exhibition.

Rounding out the Bears' individual event winners were sophomore Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) in the 200 freestyle (2:16.21), freshman Quinn McAlear (Norton, Mass.) in the 100 butterfly (1:05.17), senior Max Medina (Marion, Mass.) in the 50 freestyle (26.55), junior Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.) in the 400 freestyle (4:36.95) and junior Robert McDougall (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) in the 50 butterfly (29.07).

Rose, Willis, Smith and Medina opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the foursome recorded a pool record time of 1:53.88.

Flaherty, McDougall, sophomore Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) and McAlear recorded the top time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.24) to close out the meet.

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 20th when they travel to Keene State College for a tri-meet with the host Owls and Brandeis University.
