Richard Smith Named NEISDA Swimmer of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior Richard Smith has been selected as the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Male Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com.

Smith placed first in three individual events and two relays in a pair of meets against Wheaton College and Clark University last week. The Milford, Massachusetts product captured top honors in the 50 backstroke (25.64), the 200 individual medley (2:01.32) and the 200 breaststroke (2:13.29).

Smith also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay in both meets. The foursome of Smith, freshman Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomores Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) and Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.), posted a time of 1:40.90 against Wheaton, while the quartet of Smith, Willis, Belinsky and freshman Guilian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:41.13 in the Bears' 133.5-102.5 win over Clark.

The BSU men's swimming and diving team will be back in the pool on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Gordon College to take on the Fighting Scots. The meet is slated to get underway at one.
