Men's Swimming & Diving Tops UMass Dartmouth, 139-132

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team edged host UMass Dartmouth, 139-132, in a dual meet on Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.

The Bears (1-2) captured top honors in eight individual events and one relay to help post their first dual meet victory of the season.

Sophomore Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.) won three individual events and one relay to highlight the victory. Rose finished first in the 100 backstroke (57.28), the 200 backstroke (2:05.15) and the 100 butterfly (56.70).

Bridgewater trailed 128-126 heading into the final event of the night, the 400 freestyle relay. Rose, classmate Robert McDougall (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and juniors Max Medina (Marion, Mass.) and Richard Smith (Milford, Mass.) posted a winning time of 3:24.72 to pick up the 11 first place points and help give the Bears the dramatic 139-132 victory.

Smith added a win in the 200 individual medley (2:09.53), while freshman Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.) placed first in both the 100 breaststroke (1:03.95) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.89). Willis also finished second behind Smith in the 200 IM (2:13.57).

The Bears outscored the Corsairs, 14-5, in the 200 individual medley to make it a two-point meet heading into the final relay.

Juniors Andrew Hebert (Lincoln, R.I.) and Benjamin O'Connor (East Longmeadow, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' event winners. Hebert recorded a winning time of 2:16.59 in the 200 butterfly, while O'Connor tallied a score of 129.50 points to place first on the one-meter diving board.

The BSU swimming & diving teams return to action on Saturday when they compete at the  Louise Goodrum Invitational hosted by UMass.
