Men's Swimming & Diving Bests Gordon, 142-122

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team earned their second dual meet victory of the season as the Bears posted a 142-122 victory over visiting Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (2-4) captured six individual events as well as both relays en route to the win.

Sophomore Charles Anderson (Avon, Conn.) paced the hosts as he won two individual events and swam a leg on both winning relays. Anderson grabbed top honors in the 50 freestyle (23.13) and the 100 freestyle (51.51).

The Bears' relay squad of Anderson, classmate Hunter Goodrich (Stoughton, Mass.) and freshmen Robert McDougall (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.) posted a time of 1:43.81 in the 200 medley relay.

Anderson, Goodrich, Rose and sophomore Max Medina (Marion, Mass.) won the 200 freestyle relay with a mark of 1:31.58.

Rose also placed first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:32.34), while McDougall was the first to touch the wall in the 100 individual medley (1:00.09).

The Bears also received first place performances from sophomore Benjamin O'Connor (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in the 50 backstroke (28.56) and freshman Jacob Cote (Biddeford, Maine) on the one-meter diving board (184.20 pts.).

"This was really just the beginning of somthing special for this group," said Head Coach Mike Caruso. "We have a tough 11 or so weeks of training ahead of us to prepare and get the focus on New Englands."

The BSU swimming and diving teams are off until after the New Year. The Bears travel to Elms College on Wednesday, January 6th for a four o'clock meet with the Blazers.
