WORCESTER, Mass. -- Sophomore Kyle Swardstrom (Brookline, Mass.) eclipsed a 20-year-old school record to lead the Bridgewater State University men's swimming and diving team at the WPI Gompei Invitational on Saturday.
Swardstrom posted a time of 1:59.20 in the preliminaries of the 200 backstroke as he broke Sean Lucas' 1994 mark of 2:00.99. Swardstrome placed fifth in the event with a finals time of 2:00.15.
Senior David Elofson (Mansfield, Mass.) placed ninth overall in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 279.20 points.
Freshman Andrew Hebert (Lincoln, R.I.) finished 23rd in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:08.48.
The three-day Gompei Invitational wraps up on Sunday with preliminaries at 8:30 AM and finals at 4:30 PM.
