Nolan Earns All-NEISDA in 1000, BSU Men's Team Garners Steve Looke Sportsmanship Award

WHITE RIVER JUNCTON, Vt. --Junior Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) garnered her second All-NEISDA honor in as many days at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Division II/III Swimming Championships held at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center in White River Junction, Vermont.

The BSU men's team was honored with the prestigious Steve Looke Team Sportsmanship Award during the closing ceremonies of the championships.  The honor, named for long-time Norwich University Head Coach Steve Looke, and selected by a vote of the participating institutions, is annually bestowed upon the program that best exhibits the tenets of sportsmanship throughout the three-day regional event.

Nolan placed fourth in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 18:22.34, almost a minute better than her previous season-best of 19:21.42.

The top eight finishers in individual events and the top four in the relays earn All-NEISDA honors.

Nolan also captured All-NEISDA status on Saturday as she placed fourth in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:02.52, more than ten seconds better than her previous season-best of 11:13.12.  Nolan was also just slightly more than two seconds off the BSU school mark of 10:59.44 set by Meaghan Thomas in 2005.

The BSU women's team is in ninth place after the swimming portion of the NEISDA Division II/III Championships with a score of 438.5 points, while on the men's side, the Bears are in 11th place with 98 points.  The one and three-meter diving events take place next weekend at Plymouth State.

Keene State (1,593 pts.) is in first place in the women's standings followed by Eastern Connecticut State (1,136.5 pts.) and Roger Williams (1,007.5 pts.).  Keene State (1003.5 pts.) is also leading in the men's standings followed by Roger Williams (693 pts.) and Norwich University (398 pts.).
