Men's Swimming & Diving Drops 294-69 Decision to WPI

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's swimming and diving team dropped a 294-69 decision to visiting WPI in the final regular season meet for both teams on Saturday at the Moriarty Pool.

The visiting Engineers improve to 8-3 in dual meet action, while the Bears slip to 2-8.

Sophomore David Elofson (Mansfield, Mass.) placed second in three events to pace the host Bears.  Elofson posted a season-best score of 173.30 points on the one-meter diving board and 165.55 points on the three-meter.  He also recorded a time of 33.86 seconds in the 50 breaststroke.

The Bears' relay squad of juniors Erick DalMolin (Springfield, Mass.), Gerard Ferdinand (Stoneham, Mass.) and Andrew Green (Middleboro, Mass.), along with sophomore Todd Avery (Brewster, Mass.), added second place showing in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.77.

Prior to the meet, the Bears honored seniors Sullivan Cohen (Bridgewater, Mass.), Alex Coutinho (Chelsea, Mass.), Jay Schotter (Lincoln, R.I.) and Luis Silva (Gloucester, Mass.). Cohen, Coutinho, Schotter and Silva were competing in their final home meet of their collegiate careers.

Next week, the Bears will compete at the NEISDA Division II/III Swimming Championships at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center in White River Junction, Vermont.  The meet takes place from February 8-10.
