Swimming & Diving Teams Compete at Louise Goodrum Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University swimming & diving teams competed at the non-scoring Louise Goodrum Invitational hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

There were six Little East Conference teams participating at the meet on the women's side with Bridgewater, host UMass Dartmouth, Rhode Island College, Eastern Connecticut State, Westfield State and Plymouth State in attendance.  Bridgwater and UMass Dartmouth were the two competing teams on the men's side.

Junior Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) was the lone event winner for the Bears on the women's side, while senior Luis Silva (Gloucester, Mass.) and freshman Zach Sarapas (Franklin, Mass.) won two events apiece on the men's side.

Nolan placed first in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 19:33.41.  Silva took home top honors in the 50 backstroke (30.70) and 100 backstroke (1:05.00), while Sarapas touched the wall first both the 1,650 freestyle (19:53.61) and 500 freestyle (5:56.57).

Sophomore Todd Avery (Brewster, Mass.) and juniors Erick DalMolin (SPringfield, Mass.) and Gerard Ferdinand (Stoneham, Mass.) also picked up individual triumphs for the BSU men's team in the 200 freestyle (2:06.09), 100 breaststroke (1:08.65) and 100 freestyle (55.64), respectively.

Next Saturday night, the BSU swimming and diving teams host a dual meet with Roger Williams University. The meet will get underway at six.
