BSU Swimmers Place Second at the Michael Arsenault Memorial Relays

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University swimming and diving teams placed second out of four teams at the inaugural Michael Arsenault Memorial Relays on Saturday afternoon at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

Colby-Sawyer College finished first in the team standings with 290 points, followed by Bridgewater (246 pts.), UMass Dartmouth (238 pts.) and Rhode Island College (62 pts.).

The relay meet was created to honor the BSU swimming and diving program's only All-America Swimmer, Michael Arsenault.  Michael, who passed away in March of 2008 at the age of 52, earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in the 50 freestyle in 1976.

Bridgewater won seven relay events on the evening.  On the men's side, the Bears won the 100 freestyle, the 200 freestyle, the 400 freestyle and the 200 clothes.  The women captured the 200 clothes, 300 freestyle and 400 freestyle.

Juniors Bridget Ryan (Westford, Mass.) and Gina Poliseno (Brockton, Mass.) were each part of two winning relays on the women's side, while juniors Collin Hudzik (Dudley, Mass.) and Tyler Lindsey (Milford, Mass.) and freshman Nathaniel Gordon (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) were also multiple winners on the men's side.

"The effort of the swimmers and divers was through the roof," noted BSU Head Coach Mike Caruso. "It was a certainly a strong start to the season."

"The place was packed and the atmosphere was unbelievable," Caruso added. "It was a great tribute to Michael Arsenault and I can't wait to do it again next year."
