Swimming & Diving Teams Sweep Dual Meet Versus Gordon

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet versus Gordon College this evening at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.   

The BSC women's team posted a 109-74 victory as they improved to 3-4 in dual meets.  The men's squad (2-4) won their second meet of the year with an 87-64 decision over the visiting Fighting Scots.  

On the women's side, the Bears' relay team of junior Bryn Morwick (Indianapolis, IN) and freshmen Bridget Hasson (Milton, MA), Loren Phinney (Holbrook, MA) and Rhiannon White (Falmouth, MA) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as they posted a time of 2:05.56.  

Morwick also notched top performances in both the 400 individual medley (5:00.87) and the 500 freestyle (5:36.61) events, while Phinney grabbed a pair of first place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:02.83) and 100 freestyle (:56.92).  

Hasson and White also won individual events.  Hasson registered a first place time of 1:09.19 in the 100 butterfly, while White topped all competitors in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.85.  

In the diving portion of the meet, junior Renee Marcos (Lakeville, MA) recorded scores of 179.25 points on the one-meter board and 183.7 points on the three-meter to win both events.  

On the men's side, senior Sam Herman (Londonderry, NH) and junior Ken Berardi (Hanover, MA) each won a pair of individual events and also competed on winning relay teams.   

Herman placed first in both the 400 individual medley (4:58.22) and 100 backstroke (1:00.36), and swam a leg on the Bears' 200 medley relay squad which posted a winning time of 1:54.89.  

Berardi captured the 200 freestyle (2:02.48) and 100 freestyle (:54.64) events, and helped the Bears place first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.91).  

Senior Josh Sturges (Corpus Christi, TX) and freshman Craig Schoen (Southampton, MA) won the diving events for the host Bears.  Sturges took home top honors on the one-meter board with a score of 167.25 points, while Schoen placed first on the three-meter with 134.3 points.
